National Three Peaks Challenge
BPT Event – Three Peaks Challenge
Three peaks, three countries, one day.
In September 2017, we attempted the three peaks challenge. Setting off from Bristol on Friday 22/11/17 at 10:00, it was a quick 11 hour drive up to Fort William. Here is how we got on…
06:15 – Start Ben Nevis Ascent
With weather on our side, we make good time on the ascent.
09:00 – Conquer Ben Nevis
Quick pit stop to refuel and take in the views before heading back down.
By 12:00 we are back in the minibus and en route to Scafell Pike
18:00 – Start Scafell Pike Ascent
Deep into the lake district, with daylight fading we start the shortest, but (deceptively) hardest mountain of the three.
With our weather fortunes changing, our night-time visibility is limited further by a blanket of fog.
22:00 – Conquer Scafell Pike
We manage to reach the top and begin the knee-busting descent. By 00:00 we are back in the minibus and on the road again.
06:00 – Begin Snowdon Ascent
Passing the 24 hour mark, we continue to the climb the final peak. Weather is our friend again and we are treated to awesome sunrise on the final ascent.
09:00 – Conquer the Three Peaks
By 09:00 we have reached the top of the final peak, and officially complete the challenge in 27 hours.
The trip was a resounding success. Having clocked:
- 27 miles on foot
- 9800 ft of total ascent
- 1150 miles driven
We arrived back into Bristol by 14:00, 52 hours after we set off.
